El próximo 6 de mayo de 2010 la galería Rita Castellote (*) inaugura su nuevo espacio con el fotógrafo Antoine D’Agata.

Antoine D’Agata se formó a principios de los 90′ en el International Center of Photography de Nueva York con profesores como Larry Clark y Nan Goldin. Tras conseguir una practica en la agencia Magnum el fotógrafo empieza como reportero. Pero rápidamente su propia vida se convierte en leitmotiv de su fotografía : el mundo de la noche, del sexo y de la droga.

En cuanto empecé a fotografiar, mis imágenes se impusieron a mí como un diario intimo. Mi practica fotográfica es indisociable de mis experiencias. No puedo imaginar hacerlo de otra manera. Fotografío lo que vivo mientras lo vivo. No puedo fotografiar si no soy actor de las situaciones en las cuales intervengo o que provoco. Este compromiso es para mi la única legitimidad aceptable del acto fotográfico. Las otras practicas tienden al comentario foto-periodístico o al voyeurismo. La fotografía impide el desarrollo simultáneo de mirar el mundo y experimentarlo (**).

La fotografía de Antoine D’Agata es sincera y cruda, su propósito es de volver a un arte no intelectual y sin representación. Nos trasporta a su intimidad donde la violencia de las imágenes es tan solo una realidad de tabús que nos incomoda.

Mientras esperamos la próxima exposición del artista, intentaremos descubrir que fotos estarán expuestas y/o si habrá algún trabajo vídeo como por ejemplo su cortometraje “Aka Ana”.

On next 6th May, the Gallery Rita Castellote (*) will inaugurate its new art space with an exhibition of the photographer Antoine D’Agata.
Antoine D’Agata learns photography in the early 90’s to the International Center of Photography of New York with Larry Clark and Nan Goldin as teachers. After a  training in the  Magnum agency the young man works as reporter. But quickly his own life becomes the leitmotiv of his artwork : nightlife, sex and drugs.

Since I began to photograph, my pictures imposed themselves to me as a diary. My practice is inseparable of my experiences. I can’t imagine doing it in an other way. I photograph what I live while I live it. I can’t take pictures if I am not the actor of the situations in which I intervene  or  provoke. This commitment is to me the unique and acceptable legitimacy of the photographic act. The other practices come under the  photo-journalism or the voyeurism. The photography prevent the concomitant development of seeing the world and experimenting it.  (**)

The photography of Antoine D’Agata is sincere and coarse, his purpose is to come back to an no-intelectual art, without representation. He invites us into  his intimity where the violence of the pictures is no more than a reality of taboos that makes us uncomfortable.
